Abstract Currents is a collaboration with artist Sophia Wheelwright, exhibited during open houses since 2019 at Sophia’s studio. Suspended across the ceiling of a spacious room, the piece consists of intricately folded metal mesh, forming dynamic concavities and protrusions, evoking a grotto-like atmosphere. Projected onto and through the mesh are sequences derived from natural phenomena—schools of fish, swimming jellyfish, cascading water, beach waves, and sparkling reflections—creating a mesmerizing visual journey. Three projectors envelop the structure from the sides and below, with image brightness responding to ambient audio. Visitors engage with the piece by reclining on the floor, gazing upward to experience its slow, luxurious motion, inducing a restful and meditative state. With seven distinct visual sets, ‘Abstract Currents’ invites viewers to immerse themselves in an ethereal exploration of natural elements and fluidity.
